No Phones in Court!!!

As of February 4, 2016, any member of the general public seen with a phone in the Montgomery County Circuit and Chancery court rooms will have their phones confiscated. This is a new policy that came directly from the Circuit and Chancery Court judges. There will be an announcement made at the beginning of all court sessions, “No cell phones will be allowed for any member of the public. If your cell phone is seen, it will be confiscated.” I suspect the same thing will happen for phones that ring in court.

You could be found in contempt of court as well. This could result in financial sanctions such as a fine, or even worse, incarceration. Further, according to the court memo sent to the Montgomery County Bar Association, there is no guarantee that your phone will be returned. For some of you, that can be a very expensive loss.

As I tell clients all the time, if you don't need it, don't take it to court.
